Best Winter Movies to Watch this Holiday Season

Frederic Lyman prefers spending his time outdoors but loves a night in with a good movie during the cold winter season.

It’s that time of the year when the festive spirit is just around the corner and the cold snow just outside your window. Winter is not just about the mistletoe and the mulled wine but it is also about the movies! When it’s all too cold to venture outside, we declare it a snow day and tuck in with hot chocolate and some movie marathons. Here is a list of classic snow day and winter season movies that are favorites of movie buff Frederic Lyman. Time to get that popcorn popping!Frederic Lyman Home Alone Movie

Home Alone
The story about a naughty eight year old on the loose never gets old. A classic we have all watched and loved as children and even adults, nothing quite spells Christmas like watching a young Macaulay Culkin’s misadventures as he is accidently left behind by his family on his Christmas.

The Polar Express
North Pole, magic and Christmas; this is all you need for a successful movie night at home. This 3D fantasy movie takes you on a visually stunning journey of magic, friendship and everything that makes the spirit of Christmas.

Elf

A little comedy is definitely needed on your movie list and who better than Will Ferrell to deliver so. This rib-tickler of a young boy raised among Santa’s elves who ventures out to the city in full costume is one that will never get old.

Die Hard
The Die Hard series is as iconic as they come but like most movie franchises, it’s always the first one that we look at with most fondness. This Bruce Willis starrer action paced thriller is set on Christmas eve and definitely makes for a heart racing watch to change the pace of things in the holiday season.

A Christmas Story
Another Christmas classic, this movie adapted from the book by Jean Shepherd, is an adorable comedy slash drama that will tug at your heartstrings as you watch the little adventures of Ralphie Parker. Whether it’s his squabbles with his irritable father or his tender moments with his loving mother. If Ralphie’s dreams of the ideal Christmas gift of a Red Ryder air rifle do not make you go all fuzzy, then his super cute glasses sure will. This movie will comfort you and leave you feeling warm inside when it is so very cold outside.

Miracle On 34th Street
Another classic, Miracle On 34
th Street is all about our favorite old man in red and then some more. An academy award winning performance by Edmund Gwenn breathes life into this movie that must prove the authenticity of a man claiming to be Santa, who the state deems as insane and the lawyer who is set out to prove that the old man is indeed Santa Claus.

Frederic Lyman finds the holidays to be a wonderful time to relax and unwind, whether with family, friends or by yourself and there are hardly better ways to be in the comfort of your home and yet be transported to an imaginary world other than the medium of movies. Happy holidays!
